A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to function at all; others exist so we can understand how the site is used or measure our advertising. This page lists every one we set, and the same detail for the two similar technologies we use — browser local storage and session storage.
Nothing in the analytics or advertising categories is set until you accept it. Before you choose, and if you decline, our analytics runs in a cookieless mode: it counts that a page was viewed without storing anything on your device or building any profile of you. Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless, because without them the site cannot remember your cookie choice or keep you signed in.
Change your choice
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time, and it must be as easy to withdraw as it was to give. When you decline something you previously allowed, we delete the cookies it had already set.

Local storage and session storage
Two of the items above are not cookies but browser storage, and we list them because the law covers storing or reading anything on your device, not cookies specifically. The learning portal also uses session storage for working state — the code in an editor tab you have not yet saved, for example — which is strictly necessary, never leaves your browser, and is cleared when you close the tab.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies from its settings, usually under Privacy. Blocking all cookies will stop parts of the learning portal working, since it cannot then keep you signed in. Browser controls apply to your device and browser only, so a choice made on your laptop does not carry to your phone — the same is true of the choice you make here.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when the tools we use change. Third-party retention periods are set by those providers and can change without notice to us; we re-check the table against a live browser rather than relying on memory. The date at the top reflects the last such review.
